My son is exceptional in many ways! He is a handsome
young man with curly brown hair and green eyes. His personality reflects
his playful sense of humor and he is the most caring person I know.
Truly, he possesses exceptional qualities. Yet, he is labeled with
multiple disabilities - which are also called exceptionalities. This
site was initially intended to tell his story. I wanted to share the
things that make Matthew the unique and exceptional person he is -
including his primary diagnosis of ACC. However, this site quickly
evolved into much more as I also wanted to share our struggle in
understanding, coping, and finally accepting the challenges of raising a
disabled child.
What is ACC? Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum
This page contains my own research for the condition known as ACC
& includes some educational implications and teaching strategies.
ACC resources are also available here.
My Name is Matt
Matthew's story - includes his fetal development, birth, subsequent
diagnosis, & his growth and development over the years. The story
also expresses the emotional roller-coaster ride his parents have
taken along the way.
Special Notes of Encouragement
A collection of inspirational poems, letters, and stories
concerning disabled children that I have gathered over the years. *
Extremely heart-touching.
Special Education: What's so
special about it?
It is important for parents of
exceptional children to learn the principles of special education and
understand those laws, which ensure the quality of education
appropriate to their child's needs.
